Does Your Hair Care Fight the Signs of Aging?

PureOlogy NanoWorks LuxuryHairMasqueMeet Pureology NanoWorks LuxuryHairMasque. This rich, indulgent hair masque combines powerful ingredients to strengthen, repair, condition you hair while boosting color radiance and shine. I suppose we’re all getting older (except me of course!) but that means so is our hair. Have you ever thought of your hair as aging?!? It’s a good thing Pureology is here.

I already love the Pureology brand for working its colored-hair magic, keeping my strands vibrant and glossy, so of course I’m thrilled with this newest addition to the PureOlogy’s NanoWorks System. I’m also a huge fan of hair masks and treatments so anything called “luxury hair mask” is right up my alley.

This thick, luxurious masque is a decadent treatment chock full of good-for-your-hair ingredients that sound like a trip to the farmer’s market, instead of hair care. I’m talking about the Antioxidant Fruit Synthesis – acai berry, pomegranate and blueberry – to deliver oxidizing agents that deliver a youthful sheen and boost color vibrancy. Plus, Certified Organic Botanicals including three types of antioxidant rich Mushrooms – Mucor Miehei, Shiitake, and Mannentak – that deeply moisturize and smooth your hair and help reclaim those youthful, shiny strands. Sounds yummy, and it works!

Let’s not forget about the breakthrough technology we’ve already come to expect from Pureology: The Anti-Age Complex with silicones, green tea, citrus and wine extracts to help rejuvenate, smooth, and strengthen the hair to its optimum, youthful condition. Youthful, I love it. And, as with all Pureology products, it’s 100% vegan and never tested on animals.

Bonus Points: It also provides a thermal protection barrier to protect our tresses from our beloved heat appliances, and it smells delish. Don’t worry, the scent is an EU Complaint, allergen-free fragrance, so you won’t overwhelm any subway squeezing friends with an “omg, who’s wearing that perfume?” scent. Nope, this has subtle scents of jasmine, vanilla, amber and rose, which is pure heaven.

Celeb Style: Natalie Portman

Natalie PortmanNatalie Portman makes every hairstyle a classic. From the short, Audrey-esque pixie to the long, loose tendrils, she even made bald look cute – if that’s possible. This stylish celeb sports so many different looks with ease, but I’m sure there’s one thing she won’t compromise -the ingredients in her hair care. This long time vegetarian would only use the most natural, cruelty-free ingredients in her hair; she’d use Pureology. Made with all natural botanicals, this biodegradable hair care is sulfate free, contains no animal ingredients whatsoever and is 100% vegan, just like her fabulous new line of shoes. You go girl!

Celeb Style: Kate Walsh

Kate WalshOk, I’m addicted to Private Practice and it’s definitely because of Kate Walsh. With such stunning looks and a dramatic pop of hair color, she really puts the ravishing in red head. When I look at her hair, I always find myself commenting on how healthy it looks. Vibrant and glossy. It’s hair that simply cannot go unnoticed. For hair like this you need a killer glossing product made especially for color-treated hair. You need Pureology Shine Max Shining Smoother. This 100% vegan shining liquid is jam packed with an AntiFade Complex, potent anti-oxidants and UVA/UVB sunscreens dedicated to preserving and protecting any color-enhanced ‘do. It also banishes frizz and fly-aways and provides a brilliant shine worthy of a superstar.

Celeb Style: Miley Cyrus

Miley CyrusSuperstar Miley Cyrus is not only becoming a household name, she’s also showing off her style smarts by going darker for the winter. And boy do we like it! In the winter, darker hair like this looks great against paler skin, and the deep rich brown tones she chose gives her look a hint of classic sophistication. Way to go Miley!

If you want to go a few shades darker this winter too, consult your stylist to help you choose the perfect shade for your skin tone and hair type. Then make sure you keep that color locked in with a shampoo and conditioner duo from a brand like Pureology that is specially made for color-treated hair. Pure genuis.

A Winning Shampoo and Conditioning Sidekick

Abba True Shine ConditionerI am usually not a big fan of the matchy-matchy, but I do believe in using a shampoo and conditioner duo dedicated to your particular hair texture and type from time to time. Whether your hair is straight or curly, black, brown or blonde, color-treated or thinning, or a combination of these, there is a specific set out there tailored for your individual hair concerns and needs.

Using a shampoo and its conditioning cousin together on a regular basis actually increases the benefits of each, and really gives your hair that one, two punch it needs. Over time my hair gets ‘used to’ certain products so I tend to switch back and forth between brands every few weeks, but I always keep the following (from the straight hair section) in my shower rotation. There is a reason for the matching names, they work together – what a concept right? Check out these product lines, they definitely do not disappoint:

Silky, smooth and straight: Pureology Super Straight, Abba True Shine (pictured above), L’anza Strait-Line, Frederic Fekkai Glossing.

Davines Love Curl Enhancing ConditionerCurls, twirls and waves: Davines LOVE Curl Enhancing (pictured left), Bumble and bumble Curl Conscious, Abba True Curls.

My hair has “natural” highlights (shhh!): CHI Ionic Color Protector, Pureology,

Thinning, flat or fine: Murad Professional Treatment, Biolage Bodifying Volumatherapie, Nioxin.

So many of us have a combination of hair concerns and styling needs and the good news is there are plenty of choices out there. Thanks to focused formulations and innovative ingredients we can each find our own dynamic duo. See? Sometimes matchy-matchy is a good thing.

Pureology is Pure Volume!

Pureology Pure Volume ConditionerI am a big fan of any conditioner that adds a lot of moisture and body to my hair without weighing it down. Usually, if I go for volume my hair seems to get a little dry, and if I go for moisture there is no volume. Then I think, hmmm, should I just go for color-treated? ARGH! What is a girl to do?

Now I know, go straight for Pureology Pure Volume Conditioner. It’s a weightless conditioning creme which controls fly aways and adds body and shine to your hair. Normally when I see the word “weightless” I think “useless” but not this time! My hair has a nice smooth sheen to it, and there is plenty of added volume. Plus it doesn’t feel greasy or like I used too much conditioner.

Bonus Points! It’s specially formulated for color-treated hair, 100% vegan with no animal testing, alcohol free and offers thermal and UVA/UVB protection. (And yes, they have a Pureology Pure Volume Shampoo too!)

My fine hair needs body…

Question:
My fine hair needs body. What should I do? I have pin straight hair that is baby fine. How do I give it volume?
– Dianna via email

Answer:
You’re not alone! It can be difficult to give volume to baby fine, pin straight hair, but lucky for you there are a lot of products on the market dedicated to adding body to your shall we say, voluminously challenged style? (Hint, hint, you should also check out our article on Adjust-a-Curl, it’s right up your alley!)

Start in the shower with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner combo like these from Biolage, but go easy on the conditioner.

Biolage Bodifying ConditionerBiolage Bodifying Shampoo Volumatherapie and Biolage Bodifying Conditioner Volumatherapie (pictured left).

If your hair is limp all over, try a thickening boost spray, mousse or gel to add a little texture to your strands.

Look for products with any or all of these buzzwords: Volumize, texture, lift, body, thicken, you get the idea. Your bathroom counter should be loaded with lotions and potions dedicated to adding volume. Stay away from anything that makes your hair “too soft”, in your case that might translate into “very flat”

Fudge Oomf Thickening BoostHere are three products you should take a look at: Fudge Oomf Thickening Boost (pictured left), Murad Volumizing Airfoam, or Pureology Texture Twist.

I would also suggest a root lifting product, sometimes fine hair is especially flat at the roots. Thankfully that’s easy to fix with a little dab or spray of a volumizing root lifting procut. These products are especially made to give your hair fullness, body and height right where you need it – at the top. Check out these two, they are very good at eliminating ‘flat-head’ looks: Pureology Root Lift

Pureology Root Lift (left) or L’anza Volume Root Effects – I have a hard time deciding which is better – both are very good for adding volume to the root area.

Lastly, you can always try the upside down blow dry – one of my favorites – this tends to help the hair dry with a little more body. Try adding a little hair spray while you’re upside down, it will help create the texture and volume you are looking for and it will ensure longer lasting body.

Pin straight hair can be a challenge in the volume department, but with products like these you’ll get more volume than you might expect. Thanks for asking!
