Anna Kendrick’s Oscar Hair

On the Red Carpet Sunday night, Anna Kendrick was one of the hottest to trot celebs. She’s on everyone’s best-dressed lists – but she’s on our best tressed. And she did so with a simple yet elegant updo, designed by stylist Craig Gangi.

Gangi, inspired by the graceful off-the-shoulder look, created an updo highlighting softly waved texture. He first applied argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to add moisture and give hair a soft hold.
After blow-drying hair straight, Gangi used a medium sized curling iron to create loose, natural waves. He then pulled strands back, leaving just enough hair at the nape of the neck to create a small ponytail, and shaped a loose, undone textured bun.

To add a touch of drama, he went back to weave three small braids with the remaining hair, then again braided the three with each other. Finally he circled the braid around the bun. After pinning the style, he sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold the look in place without stiffness, and misted the final updo with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for additional boost of red carpet shine.

Isn’t she gorgeous? On camera, and off!

Steal the Look: Oscar Curls

I had the AMAZING opportunity of flying out to LA to live-blog the Oscar Awards, and saw a ton of hot runway-inspired ‘dos. One such trend was big stars with even bigger curls. We all know Mariah Carey as a starlet of stage, but she was almost unrecognizable in her Precious role – a movie I loved, but not for the glamour! Mariah was glamour personified though as she strutted down the red carpet at the 2010 Academy Awards with curl-perfection.

Curl-master Ouidad, gave some tips on how to create this look:

  1. Apply a moisturizing gel, like Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Gel and dry hair with low heat
  2. Set large rollers on the top of the head and medium on the rest of hair
  3. Remove rollers and softly brush through with a wide natural bristle brush
  4. Run fingers through to separate the tendrils and curls will spring back to life
  5. Finish with Ouidad Styling Mist to set the look in place and Ouidad Shine Glaze Serum to smooth curls and add red carpet shine.

Va va voom! Have to say, if I could make my own curls look like that, I wouldn’t be relaxing them so often.
More tips coming soon!

Oscars 2010: Amanda Seyfried Hair and Hairstyle

Amanda Seyfried had a magical look at the 2010 Oscar’s.  Her sleek back updo looked beautiful on her and worked wonderfully with the dress.  I will have to say I was hoping Amanda would sport a more youthful hairstyle but this traditional updo did make for a beautiful overall look.  I believe Amanda Seyfried will be on some of the best dressed lists.

Oscars 2010: Jennifer Lopez

<p style=”text-align: center;”><a rel=”attachment wp-att-3362″ href=”http://mystylebell.com/2010/03/07/oscars-2010-jennifer-lopez/jennifer-lopez/”><img style=”border: 0pt none;” title=”Jennifer Lopez” src=”http://mystylebell.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Jennifer-Lopez.jpg&#8221; alt=”” width=”419″ height=”372″ /></a></p>
<strong>Jennifer Lopez</strong>looked like none other at the <strong>2010 Oscars</strong>.   As one of the presenters tonight, Jennifer Lopez looked simply stunning!  Her amazing dress coupled with a gorgeous Updo hair style was breathtaking.  Jennifer’s updo hairstyle was a simple messy updo which is quite unusual of Lopez.   It is normally sleeked back.   I actually enjoyed this look.

2008 Oscar Hair Highlights: Casual Chic

Marion CotillardI was so geared up for the Academy Awards last night. Watching my favorite celebs all decked out in the most glamorous gowns, dripping with jewels, and perfectly coiffed as they sashay down the red carpet oozing fabulosity. This year’s hair focus seemed less glamour goddess and more casual chic. Lots of simple ponytails, sweeping side parts and choppy bangs. For the most part, I liked the hair styles – think straight without being overly slick or polished. Of course there were a few “what was her stylist thinking?” moments that I had to GASP over, but even those are all in good fun. Gossiping over the flops is part of the whole armchair Oscar experience! Plus, I want to be prepared for those entertainment show recaps don’t I?

Here are the hairstyling highlights of the evening and my own award-winners:

Pretty Ponys– Everyone from Miley Cyrus to Cameron Diaz pulled a pony. Smooth but not sleek, posh but not polished. Sophisticated, but not serious. Who rocked it: Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway.

Sweeping Side Parts–  A side part can be very flattering, especially when the hair slightly covers one eye ala Veronica Lake. Slightly ‘come hither’ without being overtly sexy. Who swept it best: Amy Adams, Marion Cotillard (pictured).

Controlled Curls– Though not too many carefree curls last night, I say kudos to Katherine Heigl and Julie Christie. My favorite was Diane Lane, she chose Hollywood glamour and it showed last night – absolutely curl-licious.

Beautiful Buns– These starlets were spotted sporting stylish buns in and out of the oven – Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman. My pick for most becoming bun of the evening: Heidi Klum.

Fringe Bangs– Think choppy not Cleopatra – spotted on Jennifer Hudson and Diablo Cody. And the winner is? Diablo Cody, hands down. She’s also my pick for best hair of the evening.
