What’s Your Party Hair Personality?

In New York, Fashion Week has started, and that means going to endless events that require primping. For those of you who aren’t taking part in that, you are not off the hook either. Christmas and New Years may be over, but Valentines Day is coming up, and before we know it, all sorts of spring celebrations!

So, when you go out to a party – what sort of look are you looking for? And how does your hair reflect that? I conferred with Marcos Diaz, session stylist at ION Studio (www.ionstudionyc.com), and got a bit of a rundown.

The Romantic
Using your hands only, pull hair back in to a ponytail. With the ponytail, mold it into a loose chignon and put bobbi pins in to hold it in place. Using only your hands to smooth the look rather than a brush, keeps it modern rather than manufactured looking.

The Flirt
For a smart, playful look, use a brush to put your hair into a high ponytail. Curl the ponytail around a 1inch curling iron. Add hairspray when done styling to tame fly-aways and add shine.

The Vixen
A great way to wear your hair down is to curl your hair with a 1inch curling iron, making sure to curl hair AWAY from your face. Once you’re done curling your hairbrush out all the curls, don’t worry about the curls falling out; brushing hair enhances the curling iron set. Make a deep side part and add some hairspray to seal the look. The deep side part is what’s key in making it an expensive and special look.

Homemade Hair Refresher To Go

conditionersNeed a hair refresher on the go?  I have discovered a great new hair tip that I had to share with you all.  If you have curly or wavy hair and you have noticed throughout the day it loses its pizazz try this hair refresher.  Take your everyday conditioner, about 2 tbsp, and mix with about 6 ounces of water. Put in a spray bottle and shake up.  Whenever you feel that your hair is frizzing out or needs extra bounce spray on your hair and leave in.  You can use this on your kids as well. A low cost way of keeping your hair beautiful.  I love it!

Curling with Asian Hair

Hi!
I have a wedding to attend in about 2 weeks. I have been trying to curl my super straight hair and spraying various products to see what will make the curls stay. Nothing seems to work! I have super straight asian hair and everytime I curl my long hair, the curls just become straight within 1 hour or so. How do I get those pretty curls to stay in my hair? What hair products and curling iron would you recommend? Could you give me a step by step on what hair products to apply first?  Thank you so much!! I’ve been trying for years to get curls to stay in my hair and nothing has worked.

Dear StyleBell Reader,

It is very difficult to curl Asian hair and to retain the curl once completed.  Styling products are definitely your friend and probably the only way you will be able to keep that curl all night.  I would try using both a mousse and a hairspray to keep the bounce in your curl.
1) Put a light mousse on your hair while damp, Davines Volume Soft Hold Mousse is a good choice.
2) When curling each group of hair you can use any curling iron which has high heat like the Hot Tools Curling Iron with variable temperature.
3) While curling each group of hair, spritz hair spray each time.  This will provide better hold.  Davines Glam Power Spray is an excellent choice.
4) Once you are complete with your curls spray more hairspray on the style.

Celebrity Style: Marcia Cross Hair & Hairstyles

Marcia Cross HairDid you see Marcia Cross’s hair last night?  Her style was fabulous during the Desperate Housewives revival show.  Marcia’s hair was the perfect shade of mahogany red providing a striking contrast with her pale yet glowing skin tone.  Her curls were individually defined with long frizz free 2 inch curls.  It was completely dramatic!  But would you expect anything less from our Housewives diva?

How to get this look?  When hair is wet lightly spray the Bain De Terre Take Shape Mint Balm.  Comb through hair.  The Bain De Terre spray gel will create the perfect frizz free curl and hold that curl.  Section the hair and curl each section with the Hot Tools 2″ Curling Iron.  Remember the larger the curling iron barrel size the softer the curl.  Lightly stroke curled hair with your finger tips allowing the curl to take on a beautiful spring.  Then dab a few drops of the Abba Pure Shine Drops on your hands and stroke each curl with the shine serum.  Your new hairstyle will scream elegance.
