Carol’s Daughter: My Hair’s Best Friend

I’ve been transitioning from texturized hair to natural hair for 8 months. While this is not the first time I’ve transitioned to natural hair, it is the first time I’ve really struggled with extreme dryness. My new growth initially was extremely dry and frizzy; my texturized hair was breaking and splitting more than I was comfortable with. And every product I used did not penetrate my hair well enough to deliver the moisture and nourishment my hair needed.

All that changed when I started using Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter 3 months ago. Normally I would stay clear of any product called “butter” when looking for a moisturizer for fear that it would be too heavy for my relaxed hair. But, Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter is actually a creamy hair-dress made for natural and relaxed hair that is full of nothing but healthy hair nourishment. This Healthy Hair Butter combines ingredients such as Shea Butter (a moisturizing powerhouse), Lavender and sweet orange (to rejuvenate), Cedarwood (calms itchy scalp), Lemongrass and rosemary (increase scalp circulation), and others to turn dull, dry, frizzy, and weak hair into strong, silky, vibrant, well nourished hair.

The first time I used Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter, I noticed an immediate difference. After shampooing and drying my hair, I put a nickel-sized amount of the Healthy Hair Butter into my palm, rubbed my hands together to emulsify the Hair Butter, and then smoothed it throughout my hair. I used a small amount on my scalp as well since my roots and scalp were also struggling for moisture. My hair was smoother and shinier with the first use. I also love the weight and creaminess of the Healthy Hair Butter. Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter is not heavy and absorbs well into the hair. No heavy residue, no flaking – just healthy shine.

I love using Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter. It combines healthy ingredients that deliver great results – all without the use of parabens, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances. Now I use Healthy Hair Butter twice to three times a week, depending on my hair’s level of dryness. I’ve noticed far less breakage, less frizz, and less puffiness. I now use it when my hair is wet and I want to air dry my hair. I also use it prior to blow drying and after flat ironing my hair. My hair is healthier and my itchy scalp is calmer and less flaky.

Give Carol’s Daughter a try. I’m sure she’ll become your hair’s best friend, too.

Dry Winter Hair? Need Some Condtioning? Redken to the Rescue

redken_real_control_overnight_treatAre you in major need of deep conditioning due to drag of the winter months.  I have noticed that my hair is definitely more on the frizzy side.  I have found the answer!  I discovered a few weeks ago the Redken Real Control Overnight Treat Deep Conditioning treatment!  The treatment is a mousse like substance.  You brush it in your hair before you sleep and wash it out in the morning.  I was worried that it may make for an uncomfortable night’s sleep or transfer on my pillow.  No problems here.  It didn’t even feel greasy or heavy. The treatment was completely absorbed in my hair within a few minutes.

This is definitely worth a try.  Check it out at Redken.com.

Frizzy Dry Hair! Help!

Hi StyleBell,
I am in need of some hair help.  I have long, fine hair and lots of it.  It’s not particularly curly but it does have some wave to it when I let it air dry.  The only problem I find with doing that is that it gets very frizzy.  Is there anything I can use to control the friz?  I have found that most gels make my hair greasy and I must be using mousse wrong because my hair stays wet looking most of the day.  Please help.  I really like the “toussled wavy” look without all the friz!

Hi StyleBell reader,
Although air drying your hair is very healthy for your hair I definitely agree that it can sometimes become one big frizz ball.  Many times my ionic hair dryer works wonders in smoothing down my hair every now and again.  I would also suggest that you first use a natural deep conditioner on your hair.  A deep conditioner can really decrease the frizz in your hair and keep it healthy without weighing down your hair.  My deep conditioner of choice is the Aveda Dry Remedy deep conditioner.  I love it and have been using it weekly.  I can now keep my hair natural but have rid my hair of the nasty frizz.  Also a Beach spray can give you a nice tousled look as well.  I would look at the David Babaii Bohemian Beach spray.

Dry Hair? Your Answer to Lustrous Hair

Oil, Answer to Dry Hair

Oil, Answer to Dry Hair

Are you plagued by dry hair during the summer months. This is a homegrown remedy that has been passed down in my family for generations. It is simple, proven, and effective way of keeping your hair and scalp healthy and beautiful.

1) Warm up a ¼ cup of olive, almond, jojoba, or coconut oil; whatever you have around the house. I would not use vegetable or canola oil.

2) Take a cotton ball and dab in the warm oil.

3) Part your hair in the middle and start dabbing the warm oil into your scalp

4) Change the part one inch over to the right and continue. Do this for your entire scalp

5) Once completed give your scalp an intense massage

6) Then place left over oil in your hair. Keep on your hair for a min 30 min and max as long as you can handle it.

7) Rinse with your favorite shampoo and conditioner,

I assure you the results are amazing. Continue doing this every month. Your hair and scalp with thank you for it!

Avocado Oil, The Celebrity Secret to Soft Silky Hair

avocado hair treatmentDid you know that avocado oil is good for your hair? Yes, avocado oil can be used as an at home deep conditioning treatment.  Simply massage the oil on your scalp and hair in the morning.  Keep the oil in your hair all day if possible.  If not an hour or so will do as well.  Then wash your hair as normal.  You will love your silky smooth locks!

Lorie from Ford Models explains the benefits of using avocado oil to restore moisture to dry, overworked hair.

CHI 44 Iron Guard – We Love it!

CHI Iron GuardSo you decide to upgrade to the “Professional” hair dryer and straightening iron and you assume that once you switch your hair will be shiny, frizz free, and bouncy.  Wrong!  After continued use of professional grade hair appliances many start to notice deterioration in their hair health.  You may start to experience dryness at the roots and split ends.

So what can we do to protect our hair from these high grade heating elements?  My secret is the CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Styling Spray by Farouk Systems!  Let me tell you this stuff works!  After continued use of this magic potion I have noticed an increase in volume, moisture, and shine.  It has also completely eliminated the pesky dryness at my roots!  This thermal protecting spray uses the power of ceramic to provide superior heat protection from the inside out.  This is exactly what your hair needs to beat the heat.  It also has Cationic Hydration Interlink™ that softens and balances hair, locking in moisture which helps to eliminate the dryness.

How to use this spray? Spray a light mist of the CHI 44 Iron Guard spray on your hair when wet.  Comb through your hair for even distribution. Blow dry your hair and style as normal.  I assure you will say bye bye to dry damaged hair!  StyleBell Tip:  Do not overspray this product as it will weigh down your hair.  Remember a little goes a long way!

4 Steps to Keeping Your Hair Healthy

Damaged Hair CuticleDoes your hair looks like it went through a small forest fire? Follow these simple steps to retain and regain lustrous shine and body in your lifeless locks.

Get Your Haircut

Although last on our list, receiving a good haircut or trim is especially important in maintaining the overall health of our hair.  Ideally you should be receiving a trim every 6 – 8 weeks.  A routine haircut will rid your hair of both split ends and dryness which contribute to the lackluster look of your hair.  Getting a haircut regularly will reduce dryness and frizziness and will allow your hair to radiate health

Don’t Over-Shampoo
Did you know that over shampooing your hair can strip your scalp of vital oils which it needs to stay healthy?  Simple answer; do not over-shampoo!  The solution is to shampoo your hair every other day.  This will allow the oils in your hair to penetrate the scalp and increase the health of your hair.  Of course you can rinse your hair daily but limit the shampooing.

Deep Condition

A monthly deep conditioning treatment with either your regular conditioner, deep conditioning treatment, or any oil you have at home is a great way to increase the health of your hair.  Set aside a few hours each month and lather the conditioner/oil on your hair and scalp.  Allow the conditioner/oil to sit in your hair for anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour then shampoo as normal. You will immediately notice the difference!

Let Your Hair Rest

As we all move on to professional grade hair appliances with more power and more heat it is important for everyone to let their hair rest.  Taking a week off from the normal drying, curling, and ironing and allowing your hair to naturally dry is an important step in helping to keep your hair super shiny and healthy.

Parched Hair? Try Terax Miele Shampoo

Terax Miele ShampooWhen your hair is dry it’s particularly fragile and weak. It’s also trying to tell you that it lacks essential moisture and nutrition and that it’s going to make you look bad until you give it what it needs. Yep, hair has a funny way of getting what it wants or you’ll suffer the consequences.

To re-hydrate your hair, you should try using a gentle shampoo like Terax Miele Shampoo with Honey and Elder Flower. This shampoo will not only cleanse your hair, it will replace the lost moisture without harsh chemicals that could cause potential damage. Who wants damage? Or I should say additional damage. Face it, dry hair is this close to being seriously damaged.

At first I became hooked on Terax by their Original Crema Conditioner – I’m a huge fan – I know, me and about a million others! – so I thought I’d give this shampoo a try. Terax shampoos contain modern, natural ingredients that focus on gentle care for specific hair needs, and lately my hair has been looking a little overworked and let’s just say far from its best. I wanted to use something gentle and moisturizing; something that would pamper my hair. Terax Miele Shampoo did just that.

Miele shampoo features Terax’s exclusive gentlewash system which contains carefully selected botanicals and sunflower seed extracts that gently cleanse (hence the ‘gentle’-wash) and preserve your hair color without stripping your hair’s natural emollients. No one wants a shampoo that strips the hair, and if your hair is already dry and vulnerable to breakage, you want to make sure your shampoo is gentle with a capital “G”. Unless you like bad hair days? I didn’t think so.

It’s also loaded with beneficial ingredients honey and elder flower to clean and protect your hair while adding additional moisture, and my dry hair seemed to just drink in. I could feel the texture dramatically improving as I worked up the lather. What better experience than feeling the products benefits?

I’ll also give Terax Miele shampoo bonus points for being sulfate and sodium chloride free, and having no artificial colors or harsh chemicals – guess they weren’t kidding when they said gentle. But don’t let gentle fool you, this shampoo is effective. It’s got Dandelion to keep your hair in proper pH balance and it contains essential wheat protein to give your hair healthy strength. It also has a touch of grape seed to provide powerful antioxidants and Sunflower Seed Extract to preserve your color. It smells clean and fresh… exactly how you want your hair to smell. And mine does.

Of course I’d suggest following with Terax Original Crema Conditioner, but I’m sure you already knew that.
