Go Glossy with Aveda

<a rel=”attachment wp-att-3822″ href=”http://mystylebell.com/2010/05/03/go-glossy-with-aveda/aveda-smooth-infusion-2/”><img style=”border: 0pt none;” title=”aveda smooth infusion” src=”http://mystylebell.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/aveda-smooth-infusion1.jpg&#8221; alt=”aveda smooth infusion, aveda smooth infusion straightener, aveda” width=”211″ height=”300″ /></a>Who doesn’t want their hair to be glossy and vibrant? Many products promise shine and body, but <a href=”http://www.aveda.com/product/CATEGORY14958/PROD15116/Styling/Shine/index.tmpl&#8221; target=”_blank”><strong>Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener</strong></a> actually delivers “lustrous” results as promised. I love this product!

After shampooing and conditioning with my <strong>Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner</strong> (still loving these products!), I applied <a href=”http://www.aveda.com/product/CATEGORY14958/PROD15116/Styling/Shine/index.tmpl&#8221; target=”_blank”><strong>Aveda Smooth Infusion</strong></a> to my thick, wavy, and usually frizzy hair. No guess work with application – <strong>Aveda</strong> provides clear and easy instructions about how to apply<strong> <a href=”http://www.aveda.com/product/CATEGORY14958/PROD15116/Styling/Shine/index.tmpl&#8221; target=”_blank”>Smooth Infusion</a></strong>: “apply evenly to towel-dried hair.”

I noticed the shininess even in the thickest parts of my hair. I then blow dried and flat ironed my hair. My hair smoothed and straightened faster than normal – even my new growth went from wavy to smooth. I don’t like my hair too straight and without body; with this product I still had the volume I like. My hair overall was shiny and had fewer “flyaways” than usual.

All of that – and <a href=”http://www.aveda.com/product/CATEGORY14958/PROD15116/Styling/Shine/index.tmpl&#8221; target=”_blank”><strong>Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener</strong></a> smells AMAZING! It has a clean plant aroma that is very inviting and in no way irritates my usually fragrance-sensitive nose and skin.

Once again, <strong>Aveda</strong> gets it right. <a href=”http://www.aveda.com/product/CATEGORY14958/PROD15116/Styling/Shine/index.tmpl&#8221; target=”_blank”><strong>Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener</strong></a> is a wonderful, easy to use, and very effective straightener. Go glossy – go <strong>Aveda</strong>!

@2010 Fashion Week with John Patrick & Aveda

Bridgett Bardot was the choice inspiration of the ORGANICS by John Patrick 2010 Fashion Week show. The hair was phenom and definitely hair raising. Aveda lead stylist Odile Gilbert created this amazing look. “Our collection this season is centered around big, beautiful hair that makes our hand-woven tweeds look happy. Despite some inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Lady Diana, and Brigitte Bardot, the hair look is modern—very young and fun, not polished or structured.” stated John Patrick of ORGANIC by John Patrick.

How to recreate this look at home:
1. Brush through hair and prep with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam to add body and shine. Use a comb to create a left side part.
2. Divide hair into four sections: sides, back, and top. Fold the top section over the face and clip back to separate.
3. Backcomb the back section of hair with a brush to create messy volume. Spray liberally with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray for maximum hold.
4. Create an anchor by crossing bobby pins horizontally across the middle of the back section of hair, just below the crown of the head.
5. Using large hair pins, attach a hairdresser’s sponge at the crown, where bobby pins are anchored.
6. Cross the right section of backcombed hair over to the left, pinning over the hairdresser’s sponge with large hair pins. Repeat with the left section of backcombed hair, bringing it to right. Take all remaining hair in the back section and twirl to the left to create a French twist. Secure the twist at the nape of the neck with hair pins, creating a tail of loose hair draped over the shoulder.
7. Set aside a portion of hair to fall in front of the left ear, and brush remaining top section of hair over the hairdresser’s sponge, Pin it into the French twist to create a “pouf.” Pull lightly with fingers to create loose, spontaneous volume. Spray with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.
8. Leave wisps of free falling hair in front of the left ear, and loosely pin remaining pieces above the right ear. Finish with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.

Fashion Week: Aveda at John Patrick Organics!

JPO_9.10.09_Aveda_1Aveda was all Bohemian Chic at the John Patrick Organics Fashion Show at the Keen’s Steakhouse yesterday!  The hair style was super sexy and romantic.  John Patrick told us “This season, I wanted to dig deep below the surface of Bohemian style, and create a free-spirited look that’s chic, pretty, and fresh.  I was inspired by a photograph taken at the Krazy Kat Club in the 1920’s and sought to create of a dressy, “wholesome Bohemia,” defined by artistic endeavor and intellectual pursuit.  The collection is bright and optimistic—true Bohemians are enthusiasts.  It features a mix-match of happy, classic Bohemia and chic, wear-anywhere utility pieces.  The mix-and-match strategy is signature Organic, but shows my wholesome, Bohemian point-of-view.  What’s Bohemia without self-expression?” StyleBell agrees.

Odile Gilbert was the Aveda lead stylist, creating the magical Bohemian looks.  When asked how to re-create this look at home Odile gave StyleBell the inside scoop.  “This look is gorgeous and easy to recreate for day or evening.  Prep hair with Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam and create a deep side part.  Spray hair with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray and curl with a one-inch barrel curling iron.  Brush through to create soft, full waves.  Smooth the top of hair with Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax to tame flyaways and achieve a smooth, modern finish.  Lastly, twist the front curl back and secure with a barrette, adding Air Control Hair Spray for volume and hold.”  Thanks Odile!

Product Review: Aveda Sun Care Line

The summer months are soon approaching and I am getting ready for my fun in the sun.  Unfortunately by the end of summer my hair looks like a complete tangled mess.  My hair color is who knows what and the frizzies are all throughout.  What is a girl to do?  My answer this summer will be all Aveda.  Aveda has just come out with their Aveda Sun Care line to help protect your hair against the stresses of summer sun, salt water, and chlorine.  The line includes a shampoo, a hair masque, and a uv protector spray.  I decided to review the hair masque and the uv protector spray.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil
Description:   Leave in sun protection spray for your hair.  The protective hair veil is supposed to protect your against the dangerous UV rays from the sun.  Think sunscreen for your hair.  This product includes Sunflower Seed Oil and Coconut Oil
Texture:  The Protective Hair Veil comes in a spray bottle and when pumped is a light mist.
Smell:  Aveda is known for their natural Pure-Fume aromas which I love.  It has a natural combination of citrus and flowers.  It is not over empowering.
Application:  I sprayed this product on my hair when it was wet and when it was dry.  I honestly saw now difference in the end results.
Results:  The Sun Care Protective Hair Veil is an amazing product.  I tried the product for 2 weeks and not only did it protect my hair color against the UV rays it also left my hair a little softer and shinier.  I give this product a thumbs up!
Aveda Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque
Description:   The After-Sun Hair Masque can be used anytime however it is specifically designed to give life back to sun dried, chlorinated hair.  The after-sun formula with morikue protein, tamanu oil, and organic coconut oil moisturizes sun-exposed hair.  The anti-oxidant blend of green tea, organic sunflower oil and vitamin E helps protect against free radical damage
Texture:  The hair masque is a surprising light formula for a hair masque.  It is thick enough to condition but not heavy enough to weight down your hair.
Smell:  It is the same citrus flowery smell as the Hair Veil
Application:  This product is to be used after shampooing.  I put about a quarter size on the palm of my hands and rubbed through my hair.  I then combed it through.  I left it on for about  4 minutes and then rinsed through.  The application was like any other hair masque, however, the texture was a little lighter then others I have tested.

Results:  The Aveda Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque is a great accompaniment to your overall sun protection regime for your hair.  My hair was noticeably softer and looked less damaged.

Aveda and the Environment

aveda-c2c-product-family-medium-high-res1Global sustainability leader Aveda announced it has become the first beauty company in the world and only the second U.S. company in any industry to receive a Cradle to Cradle (C2C) sustainability endorsement, with seven Aveda products achieving Gold Level C2C certification.

Today’s endorsement comes from sustainability consultancy McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, LLC (MBDC), the firm that pioneered the concept of Cradle to Cradle design, and the implementation of eco-effective design principles. Cradle to Cradle product certifications, completed by MBDC and its affiliate, the Hamburg, Germany-based Environmental Protection and Encouragement Agency (EPEA), recognize Aveda’s recent extraordinary efforts to develop products and processes that conform to the world’s most advanced standards for intelligent design, sustainable stewardship and reuse of materials.

C2C endorsement recognizes companies’ efforts in developing environmentally-intelligent products with a goal of eliminating waste entirely. EPEA, founded by life-cycle expert, Professor Michael Braungart, and MBDC, co-founded by Braungart and renowned designer and green architect, William McDonough, are the global leaders in certification of sustainable processes, products and services.

The endorsement by MBDC adds to Aveda’s impressive record of environmental sustainability. Throughout Aveda’s 30-year history, the company’s accomplishments have included the pioneering use of wind energy in the beauty industry, leadership in the use of recyclable packaging and support of organic agriculture.

“As the first beauty company to achieve Cradle to Cradle endorsement, Aveda is recognized as a leader in intelligent design,” said Aveda President, Dominique Conseil. “Designing and manufacturing products can be environmentally responsible when environmental goals are factored into the concept at the very beginning. At Aveda, we believe that authentic beauty cares for the environment which we inherited from elders, and will leave to generations that follow.”

Congrats Aveda!

Get Freida Pinto’s Oscar Hair!

freida-pinto-oscar-hair

Do you want to recreate Frieda Pinto’s low flower chignon Oscar hair style at home.  This is a great wedding or prom look!

Celebrity stylist, Jeffrey Paul, created a fresh and elegant red carpet hair look for Frieda Pinto.  Pinto’s hair is divided into three parts and twisted back into an architectural, couture flower shape on the right side of the head.  “This look has a beautiful architecture; hair is twisted back into a youthful, feminine flower shape that complements Frieda’s face shape and stunning Galliano gown.”

Here’s how to get Pinto’s look:

1. Start with clean blow dried hair.

2. Mix a cocktail of Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam and Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip.  Work the product into wet hair to add texture and volume.  “When creating an updo, it’s important to use products that give thickness and body,” said Paul.  “Pinto’s hair already has a lot of shine.  The cocktail of Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam and Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip provided just the right amount of hold, body and texture without weighing hair down.”

3. Blow dry hair back to add lift and height at the roots.

4. Create a left side part and divide hair into three sections: three quarters of hair in one section on the right and the remaining hair into two smaller sections.

5. Pull the right section of hair back into a low ponytail just behind the right ear above the nape of the neck.

6. Twist the ponytail, working Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip into hair. Wrap the ponytail around the base, creating a flower shape. Secure in place with pins.

7. Work Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip into each of the remaining sections and twist back and around the flower shape, creating a layered, rose-like effect.  “The three twists flow together for beautiful movement,” said Paul.

8. Finish the look with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray.

9. Lastly, shake the head a bit to loosen up the look and provide a sense of natural movement.

Don’t we all love Aveda!
