Horsetail Helps Strengthen Hair?

horsetailNo no no it is not the actual tail of a horse.  As a devout vegetarian I am against any animal byproducts!  Horsetail is a non-flowering fern like plant that grows wild throughout the northern hemisphere.  You don’t have to scour the earth for it you can simply find it at your local natural food store.  So what is the deal with horsetail?  If applied topically on hair it is known to help strengthen and restore shine in your hair.  Horsetail adds silica to the hair which provides naturally the boost your hair needs.  A silica deficiency is one of the causes of hair loss! Everyone on board?

Make Your Own Horsetail Shampoo
Step 1: Steep 2 to 3 tablespoons in ½ cup of hot water
Step 2: Add the mixture to your regular shampoo
Step 3: Use the shampoo mixture as often as you normally shampoo hair

Another Reason to Love Aloe Vera, Hair Loss

Aloe VeraIs Aloe Vera the true cure all for every ailment under the sun?  I cannot attest to every ailment but Aloe Vera is fabulous for your hair and scalp and can even help to prevent hair loss!

Aloe Vera has been used for centuries as a remedy to cure and relieve common skin disorders in Native America, India, and the Caribbean.  This miracle plant has been used to help relieve skin and scalp disorders and keep hair healthy.

So what is the connection with Aloe Vera and hair loss you ask?  Aloe Vera is known to balance out the PH balance and stimulate the production of enzymes on your scalp which helps stimulate hair growth.  So if you are looking to prevent hair loss or just keep your locks healthy use this sure fire routine to keep your full head of hair on your head versus the bed!

Before going to bed, dab a bit of Aloe Vera on your scalp with your fingers or cotton ball. Massage in the scalp and hair.  Wash the next day.  If you would rather not sleep with the gel, put Aloe Vera in your hair first thing in the morning and then wash after an hour.  Remember longer is better!  You can find either Aloe Vera stalks at your local grocery store or nursery. Not into the natural stalks, use an over the counter Aloe Vera Gel.

4 Steps to Keeping Your Hair Healthy

Damaged Hair CuticleDoes your hair looks like it went through a small forest fire? Follow these simple steps to retain and regain lustrous shine and body in your lifeless locks.

Get Your Haircut

Although last on our list, receiving a good haircut or trim is especially important in maintaining the overall health of our hair.  Ideally you should be receiving a trim every 6 – 8 weeks.  A routine haircut will rid your hair of both split ends and dryness which contribute to the lackluster look of your hair.  Getting a haircut regularly will reduce dryness and frizziness and will allow your hair to radiate health

Don’t Over-Shampoo
Did you know that over shampooing your hair can strip your scalp of vital oils which it needs to stay healthy?  Simple answer; do not over-shampoo!  The solution is to shampoo your hair every other day.  This will allow the oils in your hair to penetrate the scalp and increase the health of your hair.  Of course you can rinse your hair daily but limit the shampooing.

Deep Condition

A monthly deep conditioning treatment with either your regular conditioner, deep conditioning treatment, or any oil you have at home is a great way to increase the health of your hair.  Set aside a few hours each month and lather the conditioner/oil on your hair and scalp.  Allow the conditioner/oil to sit in your hair for anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour then shampoo as normal. You will immediately notice the difference!

Let Your Hair Rest

As we all move on to professional grade hair appliances with more power and more heat it is important for everyone to let their hair rest.  Taking a week off from the normal drying, curling, and ironing and allowing your hair to naturally dry is an important step in helping to keep your hair super shiny and healthy.
