Can Vitamins Help Hair Growth?

For the last few months I have been doing research on Vitamin D and recently even purchased a bottle of the Vitamin D supplement at the local Trader Joe’s.  Dr. Oz has claimed that receiving the right amount of Vitamin D is impertative to our overall health.   Did you all know that Vitamin D also helps in hair growth.  Who knew?  This is definitely a miracle vitamin.

Justin Timerberlake The Curls Come Back

Justin Timberlake was recently found sporting his old curls.  Think back to Justin’s ‘NSync days.  I love Justin Timberlake in any hair that he flaunts but his natural curls look fantastic.  What do you all think?

Fabulous Holiday Hair With Travel-Proof Styling Tips

With the holiday season less than three weeks away, many of us are getting ready to travel and make our appearance elsewhere. Speaking of appearance, many of us battle with “travel hair”, where despite truly valiant effort, our hair never looks as fabulous as it does when we’re at home with our own products and tools. Tired of relatives and others making comments about your own lackluster hairstyle when you come to visit? Afraid to bring all the wrong hairstyling items again? StyleBell decided to take action on this “situation” and call in an expert. Here, celebrity hairstylist Rodney Cutler gives us his exert advice on how to get fantastic hair on the road:

What are some of the mistakes women make when packing as it pertains to hair care?
People take for granted the impact the right or wrong shampoo can have on your hair: it all starts with the right hair cleanser. Transfer your full-sized shampoo and conditioner into generic 3 oz size containers. Our salon produces a great Cutler Carry-On Kit ($22) that includes travel sizes of our Daily Shampoo, Daily Conditioner, Body Wash, Body Milk, and Face Soap. Also, consider what climate you’re traveling into, i.e. more or less humidity than where you live. Different climates require different styling products. Finally, look at the events you’ll attend and plan the desired looks you want to achieve.

What are your essential do’s or don’ts when it comes to travel-proof hair?
Limit your possessions. For example, if you aren’t sure if you’re going to wear your hair curly or straight, bring one tool that does both like a flat iron that works as a straightener and a curling iron.

What are the essentials any woman should pack to make her hair look its best when she travels?
A must-have is a bungee cord to pull hair back into a bun or ponytail so you don’t disturb the texture of the hair.

Is there anything a woman can do in advance of traveling that can make doing her hair on the road any easier?
Go easy on finishing products with too much oil, like a shine spray because travel time will lead to your scalp producing oil, which creates greasy hair.  Stick with products with more of a matte finish because. Quick and easy and you’ll be ready for any holiday function with gorgeous hair!

Grey Hair: Genetic or Environment?

A recent study suggests that a woman’s genes are much more likely to cause grey hair than stress or eating habits.   Scientists by Unilver studied groups of twins both identical and fraternal to see if there were any differences in their greying pattern.   The study found little differences in greying patterns with identical twins, however, there were significant differences in greying patterns with fraternal twins.  Lead researcher Dr. David Gunn said “The research indicates that irrespective of how stressful a woman’s life is, there are greater forces at play which are more likely to cause her hair to grey.”

I was definitely worried that my crazy lifestyle would put shiny silver in my beautiful brown locks.  Now whatever happens happens.  I can simply blame it on my parents!

Banging Back the Years

As we age, there’s a whole lot going downhill: Our skin sags, our face wrinkles, and our hair grays and loses its vibrancy.

But what we may not realize is it’s far easier than we think to reverse the process. In fact, the right cut and color can take years off our perceived age!

It’s a timeless truth that the right cut will help to draw attention to your face and highlight your best features—whether that’s your eyes, skin, lips, or anything else. —And it can also mask or even hide entirely any flaws you may be insecure about. You know how our favorite Hollywood ingénue, Reese Witherspoon, has a strong jaw? Her long layers and side swept bags are a brilliant maneuver to soften her look!

But if your “flaw” is aging – and honestly, my friends, imagine the alternative – as we start to see those gray hairs peek out, we should counteract by choosing bold, dramatic colors that can actually accentuate aging not mask it. Yvonne Neihule, owner of Neihule salon says, “Dark colors work against the skin to highlight lines and wrinkles, in many cases taking the hair lighter, or adding highlights versus low lights can soften the face and diminish the look of pronounced lines around the eyes.”

Just as cut is important, as is color. A short cut opens up the face, and brightens the skin – which can help to hide wrinkles and lines.  It’s almost like getting a facelift! Feathering also is a great softening style that can hide lines…softer is often better in these cases. Going softer compliments the face and does not focus or highlight harsh lines or shades in the face.

Remember, the ideal style is one that makes you still look like YOU, but younger. Don’t go mid-life crisis and dye your hair purple or get wild extensions…this may make you feel childish, but you’ll probably still look your age!

Cheryl Cole Hair Extensions In Hair Ad?

When you watch those wonderfully laid out hair commercials where women have silky full hair did you know that some sport hair extensions which make their hair look longer and fuller.  Cheryl Cole did a Loreal UK commercial recently promoting Loreal Elvive Full Restore 5 hair products line.  In the ad hair extensions were attached in her hair to give the appearance of full silky hair.    Do you think this is misleading or just a part of marketing?  I will let you all be the judge – comment below!

Katie Holmes “The Dizzy Look”

Katie Holmes sported this very dishelved hair style on the red carpet at the Dizzy Feet Foundation inaugural gala event.  I am definitely one for the “bohemian beach sexy look” but this is just a “wake up in the morning been with the kids all night look”!  Let us know what you think of the hair.  The Dizzy Feet Foundation offers dance scholarships to gifted kids who would not be able to afford it otherwise.  We love a great cause!
